Hanja Lesson 80: 格, 證, 注, 條, 命

In this lesson, you will learn five common Hanja characters that I couldn’t find a place for in Unit 4. I always prioritize looking for example words for you that use Hanja characters that you already know. Now that you are about to finish Unit 4, you know 400 Hanja characters! This means that it gets easier for me to find words that you know entirely in Hanja. In this lesson, there are 31 example words presented, and you know every character in every word except for one character!

 

格 = 격 = Form
(격식 격)

格 is a Hanja character meaning form, standard, or status. It appears in vocabulary related to qualifications, personality, and criteria.

資格 = qualification
價格 = price
合格 = pass
不合格 = fail
性格 = personality
人格 = character
體格 = one’s build


證 = 증 = Verification
(증거 증)

證 means proof, evidence, or verification. It is used in vocabulary related to confirmation, documentation, and testimony.

保證 = warranty, guarantee
反證 = counterproof
證明 = verification
資格證 = certification document
學生證 = student id card
證언 = testimony


注 = 주 = Care
(부을 주)

注 is a Hanja character meaning to pour into or direct attention to. It appears in vocabulary related to care, focus, injection, and caution.

注入 = injection
注文 = order
注意 = caution
注目 = notice
不注意 = carelessness
注油所 = gas station


條 = 조 = Condition
(가지 조)

條 means clause, condition, or item. It is used in vocabulary related to logic, conditions, and structured rules.

條理 = logic
不條理 = illogical
條件 = condition
無條件 = without condition
條目 = clause (in contract)


命 = 명 = Fate
(목숨 명)

命 is a Hanja character meaning life, fate, or command. It appears in vocabulary related to destiny, life itself, missions, and appointments.

天命 = destiny
運命 = fate
亡命 = exile
生命 = life
生命體 = an organism
사命 = mission
任命 = appointment to a position
