In this lesson, you will learn five Hanja characters related to sight.

視 = 시 = Sight
(볼 시)

You can see that 視 combined with 覺 from the previous lesson creates 視覺, which refers to one’s sense of sight. Pretty good list of words that you know using the characters already introduced!

無視 = to not care
視覺 = sense of vision
視力 = vision strength
視野 = field of vision
視聽 = watching
視聽者 = viewer
視聽率 = viewing rate
視聽覺室 = AV room
감視 = observation
원視 = farsightedness
근視 = near-nearsightedness

觀 = 관 = Appearance
(볼 관)

Special shout-out to 객, which appears in six of the nine example words below. You will learn that character in a few lessons!

觀光 = sightseeing
主觀 = subjectivity
主觀的 = subjective
觀객 = viewer
객觀 = objectivity
객觀的 = objective
객觀主義 = objectivism
객觀主義者 = objectivist
觀光객 = sightseer

覽 = 람/남 = See
(볼 람/남)

覽 is a Hanja character meaning to look at or to view. It appears in vocabulary related to viewing, inspecting, or observing things, often in an organized or public setting.

觀覽 = inspection
박覽會 = exhibition

博 = 박 = Wide
(넓을 박)

博 means wide, broad, or extensive. It is used in vocabulary related to breadth of knowledge, generosity, and large-scale or comprehensive events. You could argue that it doesn’t belong in this lesson, but I wanted to include it because of the words 博覽會 and 博物館.

博士 = doctorate degree
博愛 = philanthropy
博覽會 = exhibition
博物館 = museum

示 = 시 = Show
(보일 시)

示 is a Hanja character meaning to show, display, or indicate. It appears in vocabulary related to signs, notices, demonstrations, and exhibitions.

告示 = notice
계示판 = bulletin board
표示 = sign
전示 = display
전示會 = exhibition event
전示場 = exhibition hall
示위 = demonstration
