Hanja Lesson 51: 退, 後, 發, 放, 送

In this lesson, you will learn five characters related to leaving or the release of an object.

 

退 = 퇴 = leave
(Korean name: 물러날 퇴)

退場 = exit
退院 = discharging from a hospital
退室 = leaving a room
退勤 = leaving work
出退勤 = commuting to/from work
退職者 = retiree
退職 = retiring
退職金 = money that one receives when leaving a certain workplace

Amazing! Another list of words where I have used only Hanja characters! I love seeing lists like this. The only other word I would have liked to have used is 후退. Let’s learn about 후!


後 = 후 = behind, rear
(Korean name: 뒤 후)

後退 = retreat
산後 = after giving birth
後半 = the latter half of something
오後 = afternoon
이後 = after something just mentioned
직後 = immediately after
後배 = used to refer to a friend that one has (usually in school) of a different age level
後회 = regret
後계者 = heir


發 = 발 = emit, send
(Korean name: 필 발)

發生 = something occurring, occurrence
發明 = invention
出發 = depart
發표 = announcement
폭發 = explosion
發진 = rash
發전 = development
發송 = the sending of something
發음 = pronunciation
發암 = carcinogen
發견 = discovery
發견者 = discoverer


放 = 방 = release, emit
(Korean name: 놓을 방)

放學 = a holiday at school
放火 = arson
開放 = for something to open for business
放사 = radiation
放송 = broadcast
生放송 = live broadcast


送 = 송 = send
(Korean name: 보낼 송)

急送 = sending something express
發送 = the sending of something
回送 = forward
電送 = electronic transmission
送金 = wire transfer of funds
放送 = broadcast
生放送 = live broadcast
